Linda Kessler photographs children with disabilities and special needs including cerebral palsy, ADD, muscular dystrophy, Down’s Syndrome, blindness and cancer.

A family with twin girls is portrayed in this portfolio. One daughter has cerebral palsy, while the other is typically developing.

For five years, in the 1980’s, Linda Kessler worked as a child life therapist and supervised the art, play and recreational therapy program of the pediatric department at the Hospital for Joint Diseases/Orthopaedic Institute in New York City. This experience was the beginning of her interest in hospitalized children, children of disabilities, and children of special needs.

Her experience confirms her patience, compassion and love of children, so evident in her recent poignant photographs.
